All About Fishing: The Basic Equipment You Need
People would usually do anything for food. It is for our own survival and we cannot live without it after 3 days. We always try to find something that would sustain us in our everyday life. In the ancient times, the first group of men and women hunted beasts and used their meat as sustenance. After fire was developed, vegetation was used as another source of food. Agriculture was also developed and domestication became the new norm for animal sources. As you may have noticed, there are a lot of things that change with these food sources. On the other hand, there is one source that has just been there for a long time: Water.
Water Is A Gift
Water is essential for a human’s survival because we are partly water. We need it for refreshment and as a way to replenish ourselves. The rivers, oceans and seas of the world became our food source as well. Fish became a primary diet of almost every civilization that is near the bodies of water. Most of these waters also became a very important part of that civilization’s culture and history as it is only logical to build a city near them. This is also the reason why fishing is an important skill to have during these times. big game fishing
However, as the modern period approached, the idea of fishing is not synonymous with the need for food anymore. Well, it is still focused with catching aquatic animals, but it is not for survival. Rather, it is focused on the enjoyment of catching fish just for the sake of it. Sure, there are families who still rely on these bodies of water to provide them dinner. However, it has become more like a sport for other people. It has grown in popularity in the English Civil War amongst the nobility, and now many people are into it as well. Read more about this here.
There are a lot of reasons why people go out into the sea. One of the most common ones is it can be a part of a bigger activity like a camp. When you camp, you will usually bring some food with you like canned goods and dried foods like jerky. However, these can be boring to eat every single time. If you camp near a water source, then there is a possibility that there is fish as well. While you need to have a permit to enter protected areas, getting one is great since you will have another food source aside from what you’ll bring. There are a lot of benefits in eating fresh produce as well, just make sure that the catch is actually edible.
Even though it’s a rather common activity now, there are still a lot of people who are not interested in fishing. One of the reasons why not all people are into it is because of the time and patience that you will need for the whole task. There is a lot of waiting involved, and there are techniques that you need to learn and understand before you can even catch anything properly. Some people can also get bored with all of it. After all, you will just sit and wait until something gets caught in your bait (sometimes, it’s not even what you’d expect). There are even times that you cannot catch anything at all.
There is also special equipment needed for this particular activity. However, contrary to popular opinion, these items are not hard to procure. In fact, there are even shops online that offers fishing items online. Reading about best fishing gear can be tricky though, as most of these websites offer information for advanced enthusiasts.
Complete Guide for Beginners

Fishing Rod
If there is one thing that you should not forget while fishing, it is the rod itself. These slender items are usually made with fiberglass or graphite and are very flexible. When getting a rod, you need to know whether it can withstand the weight of the fish and if it can detect the fish underwater. The way it responds when the bait pulls should be taken into consideration as well. For beginners, you may opt to choose a rod that is medium in length and has a pulling system (reels) for easier use.
-
Fishing Line
Your rod might already have extra lines once you purchase it from the store or online. However, you do need to bring more depending on the trip that you want to do. Most high quality fishing lines or reels are not susceptible to damage or breaking. You really need to prepare though as it can still be cut by a bigger catch or other sharp objects in the water. Most lines are already spun into a reel once you buy it so that it is easier to use.

Bait
Now, a rod and line will just be useless without bait. These are the ones that will reel in your catch once you are already on the water. It can be live ones like worms and small critters or it can also be the fake ones that would look like imitation. Most fishers would recommend live bait as it is easier to catch the fish because they naturally create ripples as they move in the water. However, if you don’t have enough bait anymore, the artificial ones will do just fine. You can also use these again if they are still intact. Hooks
This is where you will hang your bait for the prey to take. Once they are lured in by the bait, the hook will pierce the mouth and it will let you pull them out of the water. There are so many kinds of hooks depending on the size of the prey that you want to catch. For this, you need to study the area and know what kind of fish typically lives there. Use the size of the adult and gauge which hook would be the best. Too small, and the prey can take your bait without catching it. Too large, and it can tear your fish’s mouth enabling them to escape.
